I don’t know how you feel about online classes, but I have online classes for Web Design from Baker College in Michigan. Its a great program and I already have my associates degree. They don’t charge that much and its a Technology based college. Check out the web site.

Will a web design certificate be good enough to get a good job in web design?

Question by : Will a web design certificate be good enough to get a good job in web design?
At my local communitty college they offer a certificate in web programming and design. I have fundamental computer skills, and was wondering if this certificate will be good enough to land a good job in web design, or at least give me the knowlege to freelance? Here is a link to the certificate cirriculum. Thanks so much!

Because you’re interested in web design, check if the curriculum includes website design principles, graphics design and optimization for the web, web content writing, and software like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. The knowledge of HTML, DHTML, and CSS also helps in your design work.

If you decide to take the freelance route, focus on marketing, as it is a main component of success.

Yes, it will. In fact, the more certifications you get, the more you get paid and the more likely you are to get a job.

Go to this site, and get the one-year subscription, and take a bunch of tests including HTML, JavaScript, PHP, Webmaster, MS Office… etc… they are fairly easy and quick.

It’s fairly cheap too.

Upon entering employment as a Web Designer, I’ve heard all you have to get is a Web Design certificate and that you don’t need a degree in college…I haven’t been to school in about 16 yrs due to having kids, etc…Not sure where to start. Have read books on Web Design and am very sure that that’s what I want to do. Please Help..Thank you in advance.

I’m sure you can learn how to do webdesign without a degree but it takes a degree to land a really good job. Most large design companies won’t hire you unless you have a degree and some talent for being very creative. Web design is incredibly hot right now since a lot of companies are switching to web for fast information. If you’re just working from home, I’d get some books on how to use the programs in order to make the site function as well a book on HTML codes. Webdesign can be incredibly complicated and exceptionally time-consuming, especially if you want to do cool things like Flash, which is usually taught in colleges. Most webdesigners i know use Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc….books are a good aid in learning but as far as becoming highly versed in it, you might want to check out and see if community college offers a night class or something. You can learn the programs but you have to have a knack for creativity and patience. Good luck!!
