I had the same questions going into web design school. I went to Art Center College of Design, but they didn’t really focus on the technical aspect of web. They were more design-driven. I would suggest Art Institute or looking through online college finders such as http://www.bestonlinecollegesdegrees.com and research a few different schools.

Look at student work to judge the quality of the program.

What exactly will a web design college class teach me to do?

Question by : What exactly will a web design college class teach me to do?
I was interested in web design, and have been thinking of trying it out. What would that class allow me to do once I am finished. Will it give me the skill and training to design a decent website? Or do you have to take additional advanced classes to do much with it?

I plan on creating a website in the near future. I understand basic HTML but I know that doesn’t get me very far. So my idea was to take some web design classes and go from there. Help! Thank you!

Web Design isnt a major, though you can take a course on it.

Basically, it is just HTML, MySQL, and DataSocket.
The latter 2 deal with setting up servers.

How far can one get into web design and development without college?

Question by Firework: How far can one get into web design and development without college?
I have an opportunity to apprentice as a locksmith, but I would still like to teach myself web design and development in my free time, which is what I was going to go to school for before deciding to become a locksmith. I would like to get very good at web design and development. I would like to be good enough to create professional looking forum sites and if possible, even a website like Facebook.

Well, if you’re self employed, you could probably go pretty far. You might need to pay for some online courses here and there, but I think you can find most of the stuff you need for free. Keep in mind that it’ll be moderately hard to do this, and harder still to get employers to actual consider using you, because no college degree does not look good.

First of all, what you have is an associate’s degree, not an associated degree. Secondly, in my experience, many community colleges offer these classes online as part of a set of canned classes that they buy, so there aren’t many opportunities in that field. Finally, usually a master’s degree is the minimum requirement to teach anything at a community college, so you would need to continue first for a bachelor’s and then for your master’s degree.
