I am a 15+ year veteran of print design. I dabbled in some web design and simple HTML programming, GoLive, etc. in the past; however, between having on-site programmers and transitioning to a position with no web design opportunities, the technology has eclipsed me. I am looking to delve back into web design & programming on a freelance basis and I am wondering if there are any good books out there to get me started. Anything from design fundamentals to basics of programming would be fantastic.

Hmmm, I am twenty years ahead of you. I did make a transition and now the work I did is outsourced.
There are plenty of html coders. The technology of the web is moving very fast. I anticipate the form-factor we call a computer to morph into smartPhones.
