I would more so like to know what the industry standard is regardless of skill level like if I hired someone to do this what would I want them to be proficient in

I love the web design and graphic design careers, but I’m looking for something with higher pay. Design gets an average salary of 30k-50k and engineering gets about 50k-100k. What field of engineering is closest to web design? Thank you for your help!

You could study computer science or software engineering with a focus in graphic design.

I don’t really see a good pay on web design unless you focus on the security and database of the website (for example the website of a bank, large online store, etc).

I am considering getting a second bachelor’s degree, this time in web development/web design. I was wondering if this is an extremely tough field to break into and build a stable career. And what skills and languages are necessary to be competitive? Is it preferable to go to an art school or a technical school like DeVry? Thanks!

I’m in the IT field there is a shortage of Flash web designers. If you are just starting out I would suggest going that route about 100,000 salary a year starting and its relatively easy. O yea C++, Java-Script

I am a graphic design major, focused primarily on print work, but see that more employers are asking for web design. Can anyone recommend books that help someone who wants a basic grasp of the field? I’ve used dreamweaver before as well.

Hi D,

I dont know about books to help you out with website design, but I have used Komposer in the past and found it to be quite an easy website designer to use.

komposer is a WYSIWYG editor so you dont have to know html.

What web design platform or software can I use to design websites like iGoogle or My Yahoo i.e. websites (e.g.homepage) that can be modular in design and blocks can be moved around or replaced by the user? The user has a choice of modules to add to homepage and decides what to add or remove on their web page?

You would probably need to use a mix of the codes html,php and javascript. or you could try using asp with ajax

Yes, you should focus os mobile site design. They are worth a lot these days. For charging it depends how long it takes you to make the design but normally they are for one something like 0.99 ^^
